welcome back old friend

The Welcome Back Old Friend project, coordinated by AIE, offered K-8 students from Hood River County the chance to explore through art what it means to lose, and then regain, a friend. Music, poetry, prose, papercraft, and block printing will be highlighted at this event, which will include handmade accordion books with block print images from Hood River Middle School students, readings of poetry and prose from Wy'east Middle School students, and music and drumming by Cascade Locks School students.

The theme of Welcome Back Old Friend was inspired by the recent loss and return of the Hood River County Libraries. CGAIE literary, visual and performing artists guided students in the artistic expression of what it is like to lose someone or something special and then be lucky enough to welcome them back. The resulting artwork will be performed and displayed during the celebration at the library. The handmade books, as well as samples of students' poetry and prose, will remain on display after the celebration.

The Welcome Back Old Friend project was made possible thanks to a grant by the Oregon Cultural Trust, which is dedicated to sustaining, developing and encouraging participation in Oregon's arts, heritage, and humanities.
